Travelling to/around Hoffenheim / Sinsheim

Location map

Location
Hoffenheim is not in Hoffenheim! That is, the football club bearing the name Hoffenheim does not play in the small Sinsheim suburb of that name, but rather on the edge of Sinsheim town itself. Sinsheim is located in the Federal State (Bundesland) of Baden-Württemberg in the southwest of Germany. It is 85km (53 miles) from Stuttgart, 120km (75 miles) from Kaiserslautern, and 50km (30 miles) from Mannheim.

Travel by plane
The nearest international airport is Stuttgart Airport (STR).

Travel by car
The ground is situated right next to the Autobahn A6. It starts way out west in Paris (as the A320), crosses into Germany at Saarbrücken and runs on past Nuremberg in the east, over the border into Czech Republic and on to Prague (as the D5). The drive from Saarbrücken takes around 1 hour 50 minutes, while driving west from Nuremberg on the same Autobahn will take you about 2 hours.

All of those motorways are, of course, linked to the rest of the nationwide Autobahn network, enabling driving times from other German cities to Sinsheim of, for example, approximately those shown here:

Hannover: 4 hr 30 min
Berlin: 6 hr 10 min
Frankfurt: 1 hr 30 min
Munich: 3 hr 15 min

If you're thinking of hiring a car, I'd try Avis, Budget or Europcar.

Travel by coach
FlixBus, Germany's leading long-distance coach travel company, do not (at the time of writing) operate any coach services from Sinsheim itself, but do operate from three towns within a 25-km radius: Heidelberg, Neckarsulm and Heilbronn. For travel times and fares (which can be very cheap) check out the FlixBus website

Travel by train
The main station in the city is Sinsheim (Elsenz) Hbf (from which you can take a 2-minute ride on the S5 light rail service, get off at Sinsheim Museum/Arena, and then walk 15 minutes to the ground). On matchdays, there are also shuttle buses to the ground from the main station.

For information on the facilities available at the station (e.g. luggage lockers, hire cars, etc.), see the relevant page on bahnhof.de.

For information on Deutsche Bahn ticket offers, go to my Rail page.

For more on getting to the stadium, see the Rhein-Neckar Arena page.

Travel by local public transport
The local bus and light rail (S-Bahn) services come under the umbrella of the regional VRN public transport network. Ticket and timetable information can be found on the VRN website.

Depending on the length of your planned stay in the area/Germany, it might be worth you getting a Deutschlandticket for unlimited use of local and regional public transport not only in the Sinsheim area, but also throughout the country.
