As mentioned on the main Group A page, Frankfurt would make a good base for this group if you want to stay in one of the host cities. However, accommodation prices in the host cities are sure to be higher than elsewhere, so I've also looked for alternative potential bases for each group that are geographically fairly central and offer good transport links to every venue.

Generally, for Group A, I suggest looking at Würzburg, as described below. For Scotland fans specifically, I've also put together this Follow Scotland page.

Würzburg

Würzburg is an historic city located to the southeast of Frankfurt, northeast of Stuttgart and northwest of Munich. As a tourist city, it offers a UNESCO World Heritage Baroque palace, a huge fortress towering over the city and a famous old bridge across the Main among other sights. As a Euro 2024 base, it offers fast and direct trains to all Group A host cities, plus inexpensive coach connections for fans on a tight budget. Precisely because Würzburg is NOT a host city, accommodation here is also sure to be less pricey than in any of the tournament venues.

To give you an idea of what it will be like getting around to the Group A venues if you decide to base yourself in Würzburg, I've checked out the travel connections and times by train and coach.

By train there are direct connections to every venue, as shown below (all are main station to main station unless indicated otherwise):

Depending on how many train journeys you're going to be making, rather than buying train tickets separately for each one, it may work out cheaper for you to get an Interrail pass, which you could also use for your travel to and from Germany.

For fans travelling on a tight budget, I've also looked at coach travel, which can be really cheap. At the time of writing, for instance (October 2023), you can travel all the way from Würzburg to Munich for under €16, Here are the journey times:

Campsites
As I've said elsewhere, I've not slept on a campsite for many years, so this isn't my area of expertise. What I've done, therefore, is look for sites with good public transport links to Würzburg, from where you could take the coach or train to the match venue as shown above. On that basis, here are a couple of suggestions:

Camping Schiefer Turm
It's on the Main riverside in Kitzingen and you can get to Würzburg main station on public transport in 45 minutes.

Kanu Club Würzburg
A small campsite (only 6 pitches for hire) run by the city's canoe club. On the riverside. 22 minutes by train to the main station.

So, that's Würzburg - one option as a base for Group A. If you do, however, prefer to base yourself in one of the host cities, then, as mentioned above, for this group the city to look at is probably Frankfurt.
