Neckarstadion

Neckarstadion

Known for a long time as the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the Neckarstadion is now known for sponsorship purposes as the MHP Arena.

Anyone who was last there prior to 2011 will remember it as a ground with curved ends, where the fans were a long way from the action. Well, that's now changed. Both ends have been properly squared off, so that it's now a pure football stadium.

Once holding 100,000 spectators, the capacity today for club matches is just over 60,000. When operated in all-seater mode, that drops to c. 54,000.

Getting there from the city centre
One of the quickest and simplest routes from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) is to get the S-Bahn (metro), for example the S1 heading for Plochingen, and get out at Neckarpark. That's a 7-minute ride. It's then about a 10-minute walk to the stadium itself.

Depending on the length of your planned stay in Stuttgart/Germany, it might be worth you getting a Deutschlandticket for unlimited use of local and regional public transport throughout the country. Otherwise, the VVS Stuttgart public transport website has all the information you'll need.

For getting to the stadium straight from the airport, see my Stuttgart Airport page.

To keep this page uncluttered, I've not included a lot of photos. Instead, I've put together a selection in this Stuttgart City and Stadium Gallery
