Munich Airport is a major international airport with direct flights from the UK provided by Lufthansa and easyJet.

The airport is located 18 miles northeast of the city centre. The main station (Hauptbahnhof) can be reached in 40 minutes by S-Bahn (metro train), for example, by taking the S8 heading for Herrsching. 

Going straight to the Allianz Arena, will take you about an hour by ExpressBus heading for München Hbf, changing at Nordfriedhof to the U6 underground heading for Garching, Forschungszentrum and getting off at Fröttmaning, which is the stadium stop, but still a good 10-minute walk from the turnstiles. 

Going straight from the airport to the Grünwalder Stadion to watch 1860 will also take about an hour. Take, for instance, the S1 metro train (S-Bahn) to the main station (München Hbf) and then the U1 underground heading for Mangfallplatz. Get out at Wettersteinplatz, which is a stone's throw from the ground.

If you have an Interrail pass, you'll have no fare to pay for the journey from the airport into the city. If you have a Deutschlandticket national rail pass, you're covered for the journey to the stadium too. If not, it might be worth getting a CityTourCard Munich for free 1- to 5-day travel on local public transport, plus discounts to many attractions. NB: Both the airport and stadium are outside of zone 6, so you'll need an 'M-6' card for the total Munich area.

An alternative route from the airport to the city centre is via Terravision coach, with departures every 15 minutes. Journey time is 45 minutes.
