Nuremberg Airport is a fairly large international airport (the second largest in Bavaria) with flights arriving from, for example, London Stansted, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Paris.
The airport is located about 3 miles to the north of Nuremberg city centre and you can get into town in just 12 minutes with the U2 U-Bahn (underground), which departs from directly outside the terminal building.
If you're going straight to the Max Morlock Stadion (aka Frankenstadion) you can get there in 25-35 minutes by taking the U2 to the main station and then getting the S1 metro heading for 'Neumarkt'. Get off at Nürnberg-Frankenstadion.
You can plan your journey on the VAG local public transport website.
Travelling by underground to the main station and then mainline train to other cities around Germany, you can get, for instance to the places listed below in around the journey times shown:
Munich: 1 hr 30 min
Ingolstadt: 1 hr
Leipzig: 3 hr
Stuttgart: 2 hr 30 min
Frankfurt: 2 hr 45 min
Cologne: 4 hr
(See all journey times on the Deutsche Bahn website).
In terms of fares, you're covered for the journey from the airport to the stadium (from 5 hours before kick-off) if you have a match ticket (any print@home ticket must have your name on it). You're also, of course, covered for that trip and travelling further afield if you're on an extended break and are using an Interrail / Eurail pass, or, if you don't mind using slower regional trains, have a Deutschlandticket.
If you're planning on picking up a hire car at the airport, the leading rental firms operating there are Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. You can see which offer the best prices here at Rentalcars.co.uk.
